"...I Blog Corrected"

Yesterday i posted some of Sam Jinks' sculptural work and mentioned seeing it at Brooklyn Museum years prior - i was mistaken.

Thanks to Stan's comment [ below ] i mixed Sam Jinks with Ron Mueck's work [ image above ] .

See kids? Shotty fact checking doesnt pay off. ha.
And i extra-chuckle because i titled the post 'The Details'.

The Details

Australian artist Sam Jinks' ultra realistic silicone sculptures are....uhm....ultra realistic.

I stumbled across his exhibition at Brooklyn Museum a few years ago and was shocked by the pieces' details. Those damn 'Please Do Not Touch' signs did hinder my experience, though.

LYRICISM : Corrine Bailey Rae

Ooh, youre searching for something I know, wont make you happy
Ooh, youre thirsting for something I know, wont make you happy

Ooh, you did it all again, you broke another skin
Its hard to believe this time, hard to believe
That my heart, my hearts an open door... See More
You got all you came for, baby
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your prides worth
Is bigger than the pain you got for it hurts
And out runs all of the sadness
Its terrifying, life, through the darkness
And Id do it all again, Id do it all again
Id do it all again, Id do it all again
You try sometimes but it wont stop
You got my heart and my heads lost, ooh yeah
Ive been burning down these candles for love, for love
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your pride
Ooh, someone to love, mm, someone to love
Someone to love
Ooh, youre searching for something I know, wont make you happy
Ooh

FREE MUSIC : S.Maharba

Beatmaker & illustrator S.Maharba released a self-titled beat tape on his site.

It's fantastic - the concept of love seeps within all over this thing. Up & Down & Round & Round.

This is just my interpretation, of course.
But - the track titles dont hurt this interpretation, either.

Download S.Maharba > H E R E <
And you'll notice there are 4 thumbnails...yep, 4 albums for free download.

He has a Flickr page with some illustrations.

If Space Had A Rainforest

Woah.

I just discovered Nick Cave's work. He's a dancer [ he has worked under Alvin Ailey ], sculptor, fashion designer, maker of things.

These are what he calls 'Sound Suits'.

Otherworldly, indeed.

This is me circa 198_ . As you can see i've rocked the Missing Tooth Look before.

On the back was an early attempt of writing with my right hand. I was naturally left-handed and in the Haitian culture [ as with many cultures around the world ] this is considered 'incorrect'.

So, my mother 'turned me righty'.

Hilarious that i wrote my name backwards in two ways. Confused - but still clever!

hmmm...and if i remained a lefty would i have still become a designer? Or would i be Bizarro Jelsen?

QUOTABLE '08'

"The more stuff you have...the less stuff you do."

- Melvin van Peebles

Parallel Passions

UK's Paul Roberts' concept of 'hiatus' is compelling.

Born in 1948 and brought up by artistic parents he also went to school for art. Though gaining popular traction early in his career for his painting he took a 'break' from the art scene and took off with his band Sniff'n The Tears.

...which got him another sort of popularity.

From what i understand he never quite completely dropped the paintbrush and now focuses on both his crafts [ painting and music ].

Here are a few gems:

Amazing use of light.
