Pecha Kucha For Haiti

Last week i was invited by a friend to attend a Pecha Kucha event. He had me at "..P.." since ive always wanted to attend a 20x20 presentation.

What it is:
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

I was entirely inspired. The speaker lineup was a crew of 'starchitects' [ and one graphic designer = Sagmeister ] from all over the world; their visions all brought together to raise funds, awareness, and creativity for the reconstruction of earthquake-struck Haiti.

Gotta love it.

F L A S H B A C K < <

This is me circa 198_ . As you can see i've rocked the Missing Tooth Look before.

On the back was an early attempt of writing with my right hand. I was naturally left-handed and in the Haitian culture [ as with many cultures around the world ] this is considered 'incorrect'.

So, my mother 'turned me righty'.

Hilarious that i wrote my name backwards in two ways. Confused - but still clever!

hmmm...and if i remained a lefty would i have still become a designer? Or would i be Bizarro Jelsen?
